The holiday season is upon us, and Ohio has a wide range of fun winter events that can warm you from the cold or connect you with nature’s snowy beauty. There are several fun things to do with kids and the whole family during winter in Ohio.  Here are some of our favorite family-friendly winter activities.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we’re pulling out all the stops to capture the Christmas spirit down at Timbuk Farms! It just isn’t Christmas without a tree, and whether you’d like to pick your own tree or get one pre-cut tree, we’d love to help find the perfect one for you at our Christmas tree farm. 

We’d also love to see you down at the North Pole lodge for a cup of hot cocoa or come say hello to our special visitor, Santa Claus! He’s here for a limited time before getting back to delivering presents to kids across the world, so take this opportunity to meet Santa in Ohio during Santa’s visiting hours!  Mrs. Claus is joining him as well.  We also have some cow friends and goat buddies who love petting at the North Pole too–perfect for adorable family pictures and for making family memories this season.

Toboggan Riding

There’s no classic winter activity quite like sledding down a snow covered hill, and toboggan riding takes it to the next level! Toboggan riding provides wholesome family fun with a bit of thrill.  This activity is great for bringing some excitement and energy to the sleepy winter season. Safety guidelines, reservation recommendations, and precise opening times can be found on the Cleveland Metroparks website. Make sure to bundle up, and we’ll see you on the slopes! 

Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party

The Details

Disney has a way of bringing a unique kind of magic to our screens, and now they’re bringing it to the ice with this one-of-a-kind skating show! This is a perfect winter event for kids to see all their favorite characters while looking for clues to find Tinkerbell. Get tickets now and enjoy the search!

The Details

Winter is a special time that turns Ohio into a snowy wonderland.  The landscape has a fresh, whimsical look that’s unique and great for kids and families to explore. Going for a winter hike can immerse you in the state’s beauty and may reveal some surprises along the way, from shimmering frozen lakes to Arctic migratory birds.  You never know what you may find!

Start in Hocking Hills State Park with fun trails like Cedar Falls and Old Man’s Cave that are kid-friendly.  But there are plenty of gorgeous hikes all around the state! 

If you’re unsure where to go, Ohio’s Department of Natural Resources has planned a Winter Hike Series that’s bound to host a fun hike near you. Lace up those boots and get out there for some unforgettable natural experiences and family experiences!

Everyone loves flowers, and the one downside to the winter season is that it doesn’t create ideal conditions for colorful blooms. But iIf you want to return to the world of color and warm up from the wintry weather, then visit the Central Ohio Home and Garden Show.  This indoor event features nine unique garden displays with an emphasis on honoring American history. Fun and affordable (children get in free!), there's no better way to end the winter season than a return to the garden.
